5 DIY Powder Room Pick Me Ups

Is your Powder room in need of a pick me up? Although it may be one of the smallest rooms in the house, it can sometimes seem difficult to decorate. A few small changes are all you need to reap amazing results and to recharge the room’s design.

Create an Accent Wall

Beautiful glass tiles instantly draw in the eye, creating a killer Accent Wall. Go for a solid color or mix-and-match your favorite shades for a mosaic effect. The two main places to consider for an accent wall, are behind the vanity so that the tiles create a backdrop for the mirror and lighting fixture, or behind the bath.

Choose the best of these two features to play up with the tiles. Reflective glass is the best option if you want to give the bathroom a more spacious feel.

Make Your Vanity Unique

An outdated or builder’s grade vanity and sink combination can drag down the entire powder room. Go quaint or ornate by repurposing an old dresser into a new vanity. You can cut a hole in the top to insert a sink basin or use a countertop sink bowl on top the dresser. Replace the drawers with false fronts on hinges so you have plenty of room for the plumbing and for storage.

For a small powder room, use a pretty side table with drawers, instead. You can always set it on a pedestal to bring it up to the correct height.

Pick It Up With Paint

Whether you’re on a budget or just want a quick change, there is nothing better than paint. Most powder rooms are small, so choose a light color to give a feeling of spaciousness. You can add height to the room by painting the ceiling a shade lighter than the walls.

Don’t limit the paint to just the walls, though. A fresh coat on the vanity or built-in shelves will make them look like new again. If you aren’t very handy you may want to check out Bidvine, a website where you can easily find local service providers. They can handle everything from smallest fix to the largest project with ease.

Fix It With a Fixture

Outdated fixtures can really drag down your design – especially old single-bulb fixtures that offer poor lighting at best. Switch it up by replacing the old over-sink lights to a multi-bulb style in a timeless oiled bronze or brushed nickel.

Don’t limit yourself to just the lighting fixtures. Upgrade the faucets to something a bit more classy than the old chrome-plated faucet and knobs.

Accent With Accessories

Accessories are the simplest way to pick up the look of your powder room with almost no effort. Switch out the linens for matching fresh towels. Add a vintage touch with hand painted signs or art made from reclaimed barn wood. A few floating shelves featuring tastefully filled apothecary jars also provides a simple but charming touch.
