Routines: Haters be hating?

Tags: routine

So the title of this post doesn’t really make that much sense, I blame too many videos of Epic Meal Time for that. However, incase you felt betrayed about the blog title, this is a post about routines. Actually it’s more like a rant; you have been forewarned.

When I was a young little boy, I was really into routines. I had a whole timetable (suggested of course by my mum) laid out for the day. At 8 am I would wake up, I would have 1 hour of play time and then I’d have breakfast. Of course I would have my whole day planned. In many ways it was the beginning of my list making. If you don’t know how I write lists I suggest you visit my list making link.

Unfortunately, I realised there was something wrong with my routines. They were boooooring! I tried to make them fun by printing out colour coded boxes of my routine for the week. Which was something my teacher told me to do. Even after that I still couldn’t stick to my routine. This put me further and further out of sync. I just couldn’t figure out where I was going wrong.

Now that I’m older (not mentally though) I understand how much routines (or RUT-tines in the wise words of Barney Stinson) suck. This isn’t a dig at people who live their lives around routines, but more of how they just don’t work for me. I believe that routines take the fun and spontaneity out of life. Routines also make you feel bad. I don’t know why but whenever I abandon my routine, it’s like my moral self kicks me in my emotional stomach.

I know a couple that have a shared routine, where they sleep at a certain time, have lunch at a certain time and I assume even have a certain sexy time. To me it just seems to monotonous to be enjoyable. If I had a routine, I wouldn’t feel in control. I’d be doing something because I had to not because I wanted to.

What do I instead of routines? Well it’s all about making informed decisions of whether I need to do study or if I have an opportunity to laze off. It’s about making sure that every day is different. On the other hand, with a routine I probably would’ve passed my computing course but life is all about the experiences!

That is the end of my first blog rant! Let me know if you are a hater of routines to?
