Would you give food to someone that has not eaten for days?

Over the past two weeks i met many foreigners that said South Africans don’t like to give, i was surprised by this because i always thought South Africans love to share. I was also surprised to see people from England handing out food to people in need (people always say the english are snobs, i guess they not snobs afterall LOL). This made me think, would South Africans give to someone in need? or are foreigners correct in saying South Africans don’t like to give. Obviously if you asked for money most people would say NO, but what if you asked for food, would people at least give food?

I decided to test a few food companies in South Africa to see if they would donate food to someone in need. Here are the companies i emailed:

1) Fruit and Veg City – http://www.freshstop.co.za

2) http://www.Allgold.co.za

3) http://www.nola.co.za

4) http://www.ij.co.za

In my email i asked:

” Is it possible for you to send me a food voucher or food hamper so that i can provide my family with food to eat? My family has not eaten for two days now and it breaks my heart hearing their voices asking ” What are we eating tonight?”. It is not nice to hear someone asking that question if you know there is no food in the fridge. Any donation will be Appreciated it does not matter how small the donation is. Even a one rand food voucher would be ok, or is that too much?

I’m waiting for a reply from these companies, if i get a reply i will post to show people what their reply was.
