So it has been a Minute since I last had an entry. Starting at Kaplan has been rather time-consuming as I have been learning how to best find my rhythm in my new schedule.

But of course in the mean time, I have had a few new culinary adventures…

First, I waited too long to have taco night and my tortillas and an unfortunate run in with some mold spores so we decided to go tortilla-less with my own spin on the bowl. Taco meat from the corner market with minute rice from Aldi and sour cream with fresh-grated queso fresco. The outcome – delicious.

My next adventure was a patty melt on fresh foccacia bread with melted brick cheese and Carmelized Onions. As my side, I chopped a potato oven-baked on olive oil with Adobe and fresh-ground pepper. Also delicious.

Followed by re-runs the next day as I descend further into my college student brokedom. Substitute foccacia for Bimbo bread and a hot dog bug with potato chips. Still a fine mean the second time around.

Yesterday Jessica and I were fortunate enough to both be off so I took her for her first trip to Gene’s Sausage Shop near our house in Lincoln Square. Here is a pic of her in front of the very large imported Mustard and canned fish selection. Needless to say, she picked out the hottest mustard there.

Fifteen minutes of beer, butter, and chopped Onions goodness a quick turn in a hot pan brings these four lovely house-made sausages to a fantastic meal. Left to right we have a mushroom and swiss with Brown Mustard, a house-made polish with carmelized onions and brown mustard, cheddar jalapeno with hot mustard, and finally apple with carmelized onions and brown mustard. Add an imported German malt liquor and it was a great night.

A cute picture of Jessica for good measure :)
