Alright here we are with our 3rd Meal Kit, Plated. Let me tell you this is going to be short and sweet. First of all, this is the MOST EXPENSIVE kit yet! Don’t get me wrong, they definitely give you the most choices, but it’s another $10 a week!!!!

The meal kit comes delivered in a box like all the others. The kits are separated into bags and the meats are all underneath. This was easy enough so each recipe is divided up already.

The meals we decided upon were Scallion Pork Meatballs with long life noodles and soy-ginger sauce, Steak au Poivre with crispy fingerling potatoes, and Roasted Chicken au Jus with orzo and broccoli.

First we made the Scallion Pork Meatballs. Just the name and my mouth was watering! The directions were simple and the recipe was easy to make. I like how this one, in the steps, tell you to skip around or come back so you can do everything simultaneously. With Blue Apron and Hello Fresh I felt like I had the oven on FOREVER before I really needed it.

So as you can see from my meatballs I wasn’t great at “finely chopping” the scallions but I love them so it was ok. However, this was literally the only thing that the meat was seasoned with. The meatballs came out bland and dry. Maybe I overcooked them? But I did the exact time and temperature per the recipe so I don’t know.

The sauce and the noodles tasted great but the recipe was overshadowed by the dry meatballs. SO next we made the Steaks. The sauce was absolutely fantastic!!!! The potatoes came out great! This one was a real hit. However, the steaks that were in the kit were exact opposites in shape. One was thick and round while the other was long and skinny.

So these were exceptionally difficult to cook in the skillet! I mean, I love my steak rare and bleeding but not everyone is like that. How are you supposed to cook these on the stovetop in the skillet together???? They won’t come out around the same at all.

So I overcooked one and undercooked the other. I cut them up and split the pieces between the plates. This recipe made enough for 3 servings, which was awesome because my stepson was over. He loved it too.

The last one we made was the Chicken. It came out juicy but I felt as though the flavoring was little bland. Maybe I’m being a little picky about this stuff but with the other 2 meal kits ahead of this one, there was a certain expectation lol.

All in all the food was good. I just couldn’t bring myself to pay MORE than the other plans for the blandness in flavor. So needless to say we cancelled this one right away after the first week.

We have now ordered Dinnerly, which is definitely the cheapest of the plans. Per serving it is about $7 less. The first shipment is coming next week so stay tuned!
