Today we are going to give you tips on how to survive the Orlando, Florida sun. Don’t worry we are not going to suggest for you to walk about with drier sheets to keep mosquitoes away (It does work). Or stay in your hotel room the entire time. Most of these should be common sense but it is always a good idea to have a little reminder.

Sunscreen

Like I said we are going to go over some things that are just common sense. Sunscreen is a must while visiting FL in the summer. You want to use one that works for you. It doesn’t matter what your skin tone is either. All colors burn.

As for spray or lotion that choice is up to you. Just be sure to apply it at least 15 minutes before you head out. Might want to wait a little long if you are getting ready to jump in the pool.

When applying your sunscreen don’t forget about your back, neck, FEET, arms, legs and head. If you are going to be wearing sandals you will definitely want to put some on the top of your feet and your toes too. Nothing is worse than having some sun burnt feet.

Stay Hydrated

Be sure you are drinking all day while you are out in the Florida sun. At most food locations at the different theme parks you can get free water. Plus you will find water fountains and water bottle filler stations all around the theme parks. We love these water bottles when we go to the parks. Nothing is better than a water bottle with a filter.

Make sure you are drinking water. If you think it’s been a while since you last took a sip of something, drink something. The last thing you want, is to be pass out because you are dehydrated.

Morning or night making sure you are drinking. The sun doesn’t have to be high in the sky for you to sweet out all your water. Remember it can still be 80 or 90 in the early morning or later in the evening with high humidity.

Breaks

If you can, try to avoid being out during the hours of 11 and 3. It will be the hottest part of the day. It makes for a good time to kick back at the hotel pool. Or grabbing a late lunch/ early dinner. You should really follow this if you are traveling with young kids or grandparents.

Teenagers and even early 20 somethings need to rest during the mid part of the day. If you don’t live in Florida year round, you just won’t be use to the excessive heat and humidity. Relaxing for those 4 hours won’t kill you while you are on vacation.

Another good reason to try to avoid being out between 11 and 3. Rain. It will most likely rain for a short period of time every day in Florida. It’s a good bet it will be between 11 and 3.

Rain Gear

Like I was saying it rains a lot in the summer. Make sure you have the rain gear readily available. Nothing is worse than getting soaking wet and having to walk around in soggy shoes. If you carry a bag (which you should) try to keep extra socks or a pair of sandals for when the rain stops.

Either buy a cheap pack of ponchos like these ones. Of course you could grab the Disney themed ones. If you don’t mind carrying an umbrella all day you could. Plus it could double as a sun umbrella.

Once the rain stops everything will dry out fairly quickly. But you will definitely feel the humidity sky rocket. I would say probably five or ten minutes after the rain stops.

Save the hot foods for night

I know it sounds crazy right! If you are in a theme park walking around all day you are going to work up quite an apatite. Try to save the hot foods for later in the day….. say after 4.

Try to just snack between 11 and 3. Eating a meal during that time of hot foods will just make your body even warmer. Do you really need to be warmer in the Florida sun? I think not.

Afternoon is the perfect time for a mickey bar, dole whip, or any other kind of ice cream. Just watch out. They melt fast. Like super fast. You and your kids will be wearing the Ice Cream all over your faces.

Cooling towels and Fans

I know a lot of people that swear by the cooling towels. As you walk around the theme parks you will see tons of people wearing them. Why do so many people wear them? Because they work.

The portable fans and misting fans are also very popular. This one is even hands free. If you have a stroller you should definitely look into one of the clip on fans. This one you can even charge on the go if you remembered to bring your power bank.

My daughter loves her misting fan. She will sometimes even put some ice in the water tank to make the mist that much cooler.

There is 6 tips for you to beat the heat during summer in Orlando, Florida. There is no getting around the heat while hoping around the theme parks. But there are ways to make it a little more bearable.
