Some Leeds United supporters are losing their patience with Patrick Bamford after the striker missed an absolute sitter in a friendly in Australia.
The Championship side left it late to beat Western Sydney Wanderers in the second game of their pre-season tour, as Pablo Hernandez’s stunning stoppage-time solo goal sealed a 2-1 victory.
And the Spaniard saved his team-mate’s blushes, big time.
Bamford joined Leeds from Middlesbrough last summer in a deal which could rise to £10million – but he has yet to prove good value for money at Elland Road.
The 25-year-old scored a respectable 10 goals in 25 games last term but was often criticised for his wastefulness in front of the net.
And he was as clinical – or not – as ever as his frustrations continued on Saturday, as he missed one chance where it actually seemed harder to miss than to score.
I mean, how did he not score that? Literally hit it anywhere else and it would have been a goal!
To be fair to the Leeds fans, it appears most of them are willing to give the striker the benefit of the doubt after a first season plagued with injury and a lack of confidence, and were quickly calling for their fellow supporters to go easy on the youngster.
Not all had that view, though…
