Another remarkable season that is celebrated by Christians asides Christmas is Easter and it's here. I can already feel the excitement in my palms as I'm typing this post. We love Easter......"well who doesn't? Haha.......". This is one season in Christendom that has so much drama around it. And you most certainly know that Easter marks the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the Orthodox churches do not joke with it at all. But asides being the remembrance of Christ's death and resurrection, there are so many things that most people do not even know about this event and I'll be pointing just about 10 of those amazing facts about Easter that you never knew.

*Clears throat*
"You'll have to pardon my manners but then I have to
do this before I continue".

It's likely that this is your first time on my blog, AGJ -Abujagirlsjournal , so you are really appreciated and welcome to the hood. It's been highly recommended that you subscribe to the blog in order to fully be part of the journeys and stories and freebies and.....all those exciting times we share here on AGJ. If this isn't your first time, then hey, I'm glad to have you on this particular post. Thanks for being there for me.

NOW, TO THOSE FACTS I PROMISED TO TALK ABOUT......

1.   The word 'Easter' was actually derived from an old English word called Eastru or Eostre which was gotten from the name of an old Egyptian goddess known as Eastre.

2.   From history, Easter was actually a pagan holiday but was adopted by Christians. "Now you know why some religious sects/institutions  condemn it and won't celebrate it or have anything to with its celebration."

3.  The decoration of Easter eggs is a Christian traditional imagery that symbolizes an empty tomb and this tradition is known as the Pysanka. It is widely believed that the decoration of the eggs represent resurrection and new life. The tradition originated from Persians, Greek, Romans and ancient Egypt.

4.   Easter date is not static. This is because they do not fall on a fixed date in the Gregorian or Julian Calendar. Rather, Easter is determined on a lunisolar calendar.

5.   The Wednesday that comes before Easter is called Spy Wednesday.

6.   The Thursday that comes before Easter is called Maundy Thursday.

7.   The official flower for Easter is the white lily. Churches and families use it to decorate their homes and churches during Easter celebrations.

8.   According to the Guinness Book of Records, the tallest Easter chocolate egg was made in Tosca (Italy) on the 16th of April, 2011. It was taller than a giraffe and was also heavier than an elephant.  Wow....the sight of it must be mind-blowing right? I'd love to see it someday. Wouldn't you??

9.   Wearing new clothes on Easter Day has been said to bring good luck to the wearer for the coming year. Wait, what did I just write? I'm going to the market right away to get my own o. 'I cannot come and carry last at all'...

10. Finally, Easter is actually supposed to be a time if genuine repentance and remorse for being the reason why Christ became a curse, got rejected by his father yet insisting on finish what he started by ending all manipulations of the devil. It's a time to realize that whenever you commit a sin no matter how big or insignificant it might seem to you, nails Him repeatedly to that cross, punishes Him the more for taking that decision for you.

But then, the truth is that it was just 'one' sacrifice that would atone for you and I till the end of the world.

From me, Shuga of Abujagirlsjournal, I wish you a most life changing Easter celebration!

What lessons of do always garner from the season of Easter?
