Thunder Mountain as viewed from the South upon entering Sedona. The Thunder Mountain trail offers a variety of hiking options from easy to more challenging ones. The trail also provides access to the Amitabh Stupa & Peace Park which is flocked by spiritual seekers from all over and deemed holy by the native people. A stupa is considered to be the living presence of the Buddha and as such represents the Mind of Enlightenment.
More than half a century after its construction, the Chapel of the Holy Cross continues to be a place of wonder, spiritual renewal, and sublime vistas for all who come to Sedona. The most prominent feature of the surreal architecture is the cross that seems to have been wedged between two red rocks.
The massive structure to the left is the ‘Elephant Butte’. Two solitary rock formations to the right are named the ‘Two Nuns’ while the one immediately to the left of the Two Nuns is called ‘Madonna & the Child’ (as seen from the Chapel of the Holy Cross).
More vistas from the Chapel: (Top) Bell Rock is visible to the right of the Two Nuns and is said to be one of the larger vortex sites in Sedona. Vortexes are said to be sites with heavy concentrations of energy spiraling upward from the Earth. Many people believe that vortex sites have physical, emotional, and spiritual healing properties.
