Tips for discovering London via the Tube

A few important tips for anyone who has just arrived in London

Are you in London as a visitor or have you moved here long-term? The London Underground is one of the oldest underground transport systems in the world and, until you get to know it well, it can be a little confusing. That’s why we have come up with a few tips to help you discover London without too much stress!

Purchase your tickets in advance and don’t buy single fares, as you will end up paying more than necessary. London has a system called the Oyster Card, which is a card you put credits on and can be used on buses, the DLR and Thames boats. If you like, you can purchase your Visitor Oyster Card London well in advance and even receive it whilst still in Brazil. You can also buy a Travelcard, paying in advance, which allows you unlimited travel per day or per week.

It’s important to have a decent idea of the geography of the city before hopping on the Tube. You don’t need to memorise the map, but at least have a notion of where you are in relation to where you are going. Don’t forget, if you are in the city centre, it’s often quicker to go by foot, as every square mile is chock-full of top attractions. Not to mention that you’ll be able to take in the sights while you walk around.
