Okay. There’s no hiding it. The pollution sucks. It’s not getting any better, and on top of that, it’s really cold up here in the north.

In the winter, it’s not an everyday thing, but it’s definitely far more common to have smoggy days than to not. It’s a shame, really, because Beijing has so much to offer to any type of person.

Life up here is still pretty cheap, food is great, there are tons of business opportunities, transportation is decent, and it’s super easy to travel to other international cities.

Lucky for us, if we’re not willing to strap on a face mask and just deal with it, there’re people who are.

1.Chunbo (Organic/Natural Grocery Delivery)

Chunbo is one of the many grocery Delivery Services in Beijing, but what makes them special is that they offer natural and organic products for all diets. While the site itself is not in English, you could easily translate it through Google Chrome once you install your VPN.

Free delivery comes within 24 hours if you spend more than 99RMB, which isn’t hard to do and incredibly affordable for all budgets.

2. Baidu Waimai (Food Delivery)

Again, there are countless restaurant delivery services in the city, but I prefer Baidu Waimai because the delivery fees are half of what I pay for its English counterpart Jinshisong, which is a hub for all foreign restaurants in the city. Waimai is mostly Chinese food, but who doesn’t love Chinese take out? Download the app if you can navigate through a few characters, or translate the same way as you would Chunbo with Google Chrome.

Yes. Remember when I talked about that disposable income you’d have? Remember when I said you could treat yourself? Well, now you can do it in the comfort of your own home. There are tons of therapists willing to come over and set up shop in right in your place, whether it be for a relaxing massage or for medical purposes.

4. Manicures

This is a service I learned about a month ago. I now can get my nails done on my couch, next to my pup for even cheaper than the nail salon I used to go to. Not joking. Homegirl brings all of her tools over while I listen to a podcast and zone out.

5. Ikea Delivery

I’m not sure why, but Beijing was snubbed when it came to actual online shopping and delivery for IKEA. It’s kind of a bummer, but not so much when someone will actually conquer all three floors for you, minus the headache and over0spending from the strategically placed accessories. Sure, he charges 10% for shopping and delivery, but what’s not to love about someone doing the dirty work for you?

6. JD.com, Taobao, and BaoPals

If you’re a long-time expat, you already know and can probably navigate your way through both JD and Taobao. With a bit of skill, you can sign up for either of these Amazon-like sites via Google Chrome translate. If you’re too fed up with the Chinglish, Baopals is the foreign version of these shopping meccas you’ve been waiting for. Boasting everything from a new coffee pot to boyfriend rentals (seriously), I’m sure you can find what you’re looking for.

7. Starbucks

Don’t get me wrong. I hate feeding into American chains just like the next guy, but forgive my inner privileged white girl that loves having someone bring her coffee.

Starbucks is just one of the countless American fast food chains that will deliver to you. Sometimes via an app like I mentioned above, or through their own platform. It’s definitely a splurge, but worth it on the days where you can’t bring yourself to get out of bed and make it your damn self.

Do the best delivery services in Beijing make putting up with the pollution worth it?

Yes…and no.

On those super clear days when you can go out for a long run, get a view of The Great Wall, or drink happy hour wine on a roof top with a perfect view of the cityscape, you’ll forget about the environmental threat.
