Segment 42 – HT Localization Anniversary: World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS)

It’s been a while since I’ve written the last blog segment. Wow, now here we are - already in March 2015!  This week marks our company’s anniversary.  A few short years ago, we opened our doors and began operating, with one client and few laptops, and literally a handful of translators.  My partner was a seasoned Localization professional with multiple notches in his belt from a variety of senior C-level roles within the industry, and me, well I was – a recently re-entered-the-workforce-mom with young kids (who were finally school age)...

 As I reflect on my own experiences, I think about International Woman’s Day, and the strides that many women before me have made allowing women to lead successful careers today.  I think about the young female voices in countries outside of the U.S., such as India and China that are shouting to be heard AND are being HEARD.  I am grateful that these inspirational young women continue to stand up for their values.  It saddens me to watch the news and see that despite how far we’ve come as a society, many girls across the world are still unable to get a proper education or even leave the house with the same freedoms as my own girl can today. While culture and attitude towards women will vary across the globe, it is clear that the winds of change will continue to blow... and maybe with time and support, the winds will be able to reach all corners of the globe. 

It is with these sentiments that I am devoting this blog segment to international women and girls everywhere, in hopes that the winds of change will continue to blow and reach every corner of mother earth.  I'm proud to share that HT LOCALIZATION supports International Women’s Day (IWD) and their charity of choice: World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). 

WAGGGS' Global Action Theme is "together we can change our world". This mindset is pertinent to International Women's Day. WAGGGS provides girls in almost every country across the world with values-based training in life skills, leadership and citizenship. They address and educate girls about issues like aids, violence, leadership, community involvement and responsibility, teamwork, environmentalism and much more. 

Girls are change agents for the future. By drawing the world's attention to the inclusion of girls in all IWD activity globally, many more minds will be inspired, barriers broken and expectations for fulfilling potential realised. Girl Guides and Girl Scouts are tomorrow's women leaders.

To celebrate HT LOCALIZATION'S anniversary, we pledge our support to WAGGGS and invite you to join us; we urge you to donate your International Women's Day events proceeds and fundraising efforts to help young women spread the winds of change… for all the mothers, sisters, daughters, aunts, wives, grandmothers, and also the men who love us.
