23 Children and 2 Teachers Burned Alive After Fire Broke Out in School Dorm

People in Malaysia, are mourning the deaths of multiple children and teachers who perished when a fire broke out at a school dorm.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire Department confirmed that 23 children and two teachers were burned alive in the fire that broke out at the Darul Quran Ittifaqiah religious school. The fire broke out on Thursday, at around 5:30 a.m.

Firefighters arrived at the scene within minutes of getting the call, but the flames quickly engulfed the entire building. The children and teachers were unable to escape as the windows were all secured with iron bars.

By the time the fire was extinguished, 23 children and 2 teachers were burned to death. Seven children suffered serious injuries, and were taken to a nearby hospital, where they are said to be in critical condition.

Videos that were uploaded to the Internet, showed boys screaming at the open windows, begging to be rescued, but they were unable to jump out due to the iron bars.

The boys were between 13 and 17 years old.
