Meet the Rocket Lawyer Design Team

Design and user experience are the backbone of Rocket Lawyer; our design team is a group of highly talented individuals that create and innovate our design and user journey. We wanted to know more about their experiences and how design works in the legal tech world.

Candice

Design inspires me because it is omnipresent in our lives and takes many shapes and forms. Whether it’s brands that you love, maps that help you find your way, or applications on your mobile phone, design is everywhere improving our lives and shaping our experiences. Rocket Lawyer aspires to demystify complicated legal needs, and design helps us solve this problem. In product design, we are most concerned with collecting information about our users, being empathetic to their experiences, and also balancing our business directives. We constantly strive to improve this tool that helps people better their lives, and the design process makes that possible.

Haley

Great design thinking could be applied to any problem in our lives. Because of this, I seem to find more inspiration away from my desk. I love design because it’s never “done” thanks to the ever-changing needs in our world. This fact pushes us, as designers, to never leave something alone because there is always room for improvement. I firmly believe that our skills can and should touch all parts of business, as we are creative thinkers and not just pixel pushers.

Rocket Lawyer understands this holistic value of our Designers, and we are constantly trying to iterate and evolve the leadership role it takes in the business. Because empathy and the need to understand our user’s problems (which are typically intimidating and very high-anxiety in Rocket Lawyer’s case) are at the core of who we are, we bring a distinct and important voice to every conversation that keeps the focus on what is best for the customer as well as a creative approach to making decisions big and small.

Jeff

Design can be applied to the philosophy of everyday life. There are beautiful things all around us and also parts of life that could be changed for the better. It’s inspiring to think about how to clearly empathize with the problem at hand and create solutions that might solve for them. This inspires me greatly because it creates this constant dynamic of pushing me to think outside of the box. It makes me a more empathetic and rational person as well. At the end of the day, my hope is that my designs give back to the community in some way or another.

Rocket Lawyer has a lot of interesting problems to solve in a very unique space. There isn’t a day without design challenges, and this is why design is crucial in understanding and formulating solutions to everyday users’ legal needs. This creates an incredibly important role for us and something Rocket Lawyer values very closely.

Rocket Lawyer truly puts design first, and it shows. I love being part of an organization that places so much value on product and marketing design. Working within diverse teams, we all have a common goal in mind: How can we best serve our customers—people who often don’t know where to start or what to do with regards to legal, but know they need help. Our job is to be their advocate, and we’re supported at every level at Rocket Lawyer by teammates and executives who share our passion for accessible legal help.

Some things that inspire my work are modern art in all mediums, photojournalism, and nature. I’m always looking for new outlets to exercise my creative muscles.

Latoya

What really inspires my work is being able to solve real problems for real people who have real problems. It’s a mantra I’ve always followed throughout my career. I love understanding the needs of people and creating effective and meaningful solutions for those needs. I’m also really inspired by creative environments. Creative environments allow for limitless innovation – and that’s always the ideal sweet spot for designers Design is so important at Rocket Lawyer because we’re constantly striving to provide the best user experience to our customers. Through iteration, testing, and learning from our efforts, we diligently and tirelessly make sure our products better. Customer happiness is important to us, and we’re always listening and iterating to make it better.

Liana

An aspect that I really appreciate about having a career in design is being able to create opportunities for empowerment. At Rocket Lawyer, we empower regular people to participate in solving their legal matters. Designers here develop a deep sense of understanding of our user’s needs and carry that understanding into every conversation we have. We recognize that it’s easy for an organization engaged in only looking at quantitative data to loose sight of this.

Design is more democratic than most people think it is. You don’t need the title of “designer” to engage in design. Everyone, to some extent, is a designer because the decisions we make and the relationships we create as result of those decisions are an act of design. It doesn’t matter what position you hold within an organization; you impact the end user’s experience through the decisions you make.

Marco

Design touches on so many interesting topics: ergonomics, art history, typography, color theory, behavioral psychology, gestalt theory, and countless other ideas that are foundational within society. The practical application of all these different disciplines is what inspires my work and in turn helps our company organize our product into something that is easier to use and more fun to interact with. The design really is crucial at Rocket Lawyer because our team has evolved into the voice of the user and the champions of rational solutions. It is our team’s responsibility to provide the best experience we can while also innovating within our industry.

Sarah

Imagining the future helps inspire my work to think about how society and technology will co-evolve. I think building the body of knowledge we have on how imagining a reality that doesn’t exist yet might help people become more creative, more inventive, and more empowered to make changes in the world around them. Imagination is fun and satisfying, but it’s also a practical skill. We can make any future we can imagine. And we can imagine any future we want.

Designing is essential at Rocket Lawyer. Every touchpoint within the customer’s interaction with our product is designed to deliver experiences based on our brand’s promise; purpose and empathy with our customers. This experience pushes us to make “being in our customer’s shoes” a core value of our design team.
