The engineering team is a crucial piece at Rocket Lawyer, they make our ideas come to life, so naturally we’re big fans. Meet Ivan, one of our software engineers in charge of building our amazing products.

Tell us about yourself

I grew up in a town at the edge of Santa Clara County in California and subsequently went to college at Berkeley making me a lifelong Bay Area resident. I’ve been with Rocket Lawyer for over three years where I’ve worked on a variety of products from our incorporation product to our public question and answer platform.

What do you do at Rocket Lawyer and what’s your favorite part about your job?

I’m a software engineer on the Attorney Services Team where I build products for users to connect with our high-calibre network of attorneys. My favorite part of the job is working with others across the company to take a product from vision to execution.

Favorite movies?

My favorite movies are The Social Network and Friday Night Lights.

If you could have dinner and pick the brain of any famous person (celebrity, politician, musician, etc.), who would it be and why?

I would want to have dinner with Michael Bloomberg, an individual who worked hard and created a hugely successful business that has an impact throughout the world and later turned around and used his fortune for philanthropic and policy endeavors. I’d want to talk with him about how to build a business and how to impact the world in a positive way.

Tell me your favorite Rocket Lawyer story

One of my favorite times at Rocket Lawyer was during the launch of our new eCommerce system that took about a year to build. It was a huge effort that involved a large number of engineers, designers, and product managers and being able to pull it off successfully resulted in a dramatically improved experience for our customers.

What’s your proudest moment at Rocket Lawyer?

My proudest moment at Rocket Lawyer was when we launched a new mobile-friendly incorporation experience for our users. My dad started his small business in 2008 when incorporations were expensive and complex; by building that product, I was able to see first-hand how our users benefitted from our platform.

Best advice you’ve received?

The best advice I’ve received is to never stop learning. The world is evolving at a rapid pace, and the jobs that exist now will have drastically changed in the next few years. Therefore I’ve taken this advice to heart and have made a conscious effort to educate myself constantly.
