The Statue of Reason

What would America be like if the Statue of Liberty was Nude?

Restore Reason
"Truth, Freedom, Beauty, Romance"

Imagine yourself as a European immigrant, coming into New York harbor for the very first time, and witnessing the rising spires of the New York City skyline reaching up to the heavens. You also see, not the Statue of Liberty as we know it today, but rather an enormous statue of a naked woman - the sculptured embodiment of female beauty and seductiveness - her long hair flowing down from a seven spiked crown that sits upon her head. In her right hand she holds the torch of liberty high above her head, and in her left arm, cradled under her perfectly molded breast, she holds a tablet.

Reflection by Holly Crocker Garcia

Through the sea spray and fog, you can just barely make out that something is engraved on the tablet. You tap on the shoulder of the nearest person you can find, and ask him if he knows what is written there.

The gentleman smiles, raises his head, and recites the lines in a slow, rhythmic voice:

"Give me your proud, your heroic,
Your productive men and women yearning for reason,
The best and brightest of your teeming shore.
Send these, the resourceful, exalted ones to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

And the moral of our story is...
Hero-worship is the recognition of humanity as the highest ideal - the elevation of men and women to the status of erotic and heroic beings of free will, with their own happiness as the moral purpose of their lives, productive achievement as their noblest activity, sex as an expression of their self-esteem, and reason as their only absolute.

Hero-worship is to happiness what happiness is to life - if a life has happiness, that life is complete; if a happiness has hero-worship, that happiness is complete. Hero-worship is the sublime expression of an objective reality. Without this objectivity, the psyche is out of alignment with reality, and happiness cannot sustain itself.

Acknowledgment
The sculpture shown above was the inspiration behind this post, and is being presented here with Holly Crocker Garcia's kind permission, along with the kind permission of the Quent Cordair Fine Art gallery. For this they have our deepest appreciation, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them both for the inspirational work they do.
