Bursa Malaysia open with positive momentum from last week to open higher today, lead by buying sentiment, with interest noted in penny stocks and selected heavyweights.
The key FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI was 0.36 of a point higher at 1,683.58 from Friday’s close of 1,683.22 and even a lower opening of 1,683.05.

Market breadth was positive, as advances led decliners 157 to 91, with 173 counters unchanged, 1,441 untraded and 23 others suspended. Turnover amounted to 158.39 million shares worth RM38.86 million.
Sector-wise, finance index at 17,432.55 and the Plantation Index up 2.8 points to 7,120.44, but the Industrial Products and Services Index down 0.09 of-a-points to 164.78.

Perisai Petroleum Teknologi Bhd stocks slid lower this morning ahead of its suspension from trading effective Jan 22 after the stock exchange rejected the group’s proposed regularisation plan.
Scomi Energy Services Bhd (SESB) shares fell 10% in early trade after its board investigation into the RM64.33 million fund diversions to its parent company Scomi Group Bhd without board approval.
Orion IXL Bhd stock rose 14.8% or two sen to its 10-month high of 15.5 sen, after an analyst remarked that the ACE Market-listed company could be a “fintech giant in the making.
Forex Signals: The ringgit opens flat against the US dollar. The ringgit trade at 4.10, Ringgit remains sideways as lack of volume.
US market initially moved lower but later staged a recovery attempt over the course of the trading session on Friday. The major indexes climbed well off worst levels of the day session but still closed slightly lower.
The Nasdaq fell 14.59 points or 0.2 percent to 6,971.48, the Dow and the S&P 500 both edged down by less than a tenth of a percent. The Dow dipped 5.97 points to 23,995.95 and the S&P 500 slipped 0.38 points to 2,596.26.
US consumer price index slipped by 0.1 percent in December after coming in unchanged in November. The drop in CPI came as per estimates.
