All About that Crypto

As the team ventured away from the stock market and jumped into our first cryptocurrency investment last month, we have been diligently reading up and sharing knowledge. Just about everything we passed around had to do with bitcoin or the blockchain. Because why not.

As a primer, our friends over at Voleo shared this guest post providing a high level summary on cryptocurrency. Focusing mainly on the history and price perfomance bitcoin, it’s a great read if you are like us and just getting started.

Blockchain Investment Club 2.0

Our research caused us to stumble upon a pretty unique application of the “blockchain” technology that drives and secures cryptocurrencies.

Swarm essentially combines the security of the blockchain, the shared investment decision making of an investment club, and the power of crowdfunding to create a very compelling investment platform.

You’ll need to do your own reading on the Swarm website as I won’t do it justice, but its a great example of the next-level applications of the technology beyond speculating on bitcoin prices.

Ghostface Killah is Starting a Cryptocurrency Company

And then there is this. Yes, you read that right.

Ghostface Killah, of Wu-Tang Clan fame, has co-founded a cryptocurrency company called CREAM Capitol. CREAM is short for Crypto Rules Everything Around Me, and Ghost is the Chief Branding Officer.

Hoping to make cryptocurrency accessible to the masses via ATMs (or something like that), the CREAM token goes on sale November 11th, if you want in on this action.

Skeptical Panda

Huge thanks to Jordan for really spearheading the whole cryptocurrency investment effort. There are a surprising number of hoops to jump through to get started. A different digital wallet for every currency. Some brokerages don’t even accept US dollars.

Needless to say when it took a while to get started, and on top of that, one of our accounts was “suspended” for suspected fraud, the team’s skepticism mounted. In a classic Sneaky Falcon group text moment, the response to Jordan’s convoluted and sketchy discussion with our brokerage’s support desk went basically as follows:

Yeah.
