QP Ransomware

Contrary to popular believe, file-lockers use more than just file-encryption methods to prevent their victims from accessing their valuable files. This is the case with the QP Ransomware, a file-locker, which works by putting all of the user’s valuable files in a password-protected archive. After the archive is created, the QP Ransomware will make sure to delete the original versions of the files, therefore leaving the victim with only one option – pay the ransom fee the attackers demand. Unfortunately, recovering from the QP Ransomware’s attack might not be an easy task because the password used to lock the files is not known yet. However, this does not mean you should try to co-operate with the attackers – even if you meet their demands, they might not help you.

The QP Ransomware might be propagated via fraudulent email messages, pirated software, pirated movies, and TV series, or via torrent trackers. It is recommended to stay away from dubious files you find online, as well as to be more careful when reviewing emails from unknown senders. Another recommendation to help you preserve your files from the attacks of ransomware is to use a reputable anti-malware application paired with a reliable backup service.

When the QP Ransomware completes its attack, it leaves behind the ransom message ‘INFORMATION.hta.’ This file reveals that the attackers are willing to restore up to four files free of charge as soon as the victims contact them by emailing either [email protected] or [email protected]. The other part of the ransom note says that the rest of the files will be recovered when the victim contacts the attackers and completes a ransom payment via Bitcoin.

Our advice is to avoid sending money to the QP Ransomware’s operators because it would not be a surprise if they end up scamming you. Instead of trusting cyber criminals, you should immediately use an antivirus scanner to eliminate the QP Ransomware’s components. The password-protected archive with your files should be preserved in case a free decryptor becomes available.
