Wana Decrypt0r 2.0 Ransomware

The quick rise of the WannaCryptor Ransomware (WanaCrypt0r Ransomware) has attracted the attention of both people in the cyber field, as well as of the best malware researchers who work tirelessly to minimize the damage that threats like this can cause. We already saw two imposters of the WannaCryptor Ransomware (WanaCrypt0r Ransomware), which were crafted by inexperienced cyber crooks that did not even manage to implement a work encryption algorithm – the Wana Decrypt0r 3.0 Ransomware and the Wanna Subscribe 1.0 Ransomware. Today, we’ll take a look at a WannaCryptor Ransomware copycat, which is the product of a malware researcher who crafted the imposter as a user-friendly project to show people how easy it is to get infected by a file-encryption Trojan if they are not careful online.

The name of the safe WannaCryptor Ransomware copycat is Wana Decrypt0r 2.0 Ransomware, and it does not use an encryption, nor does it disable any important Windows services. Instead, it simply displays a new program window, which is identical to the one that the WannaCryptor Ransomware uses to deliver its ransom message. Since the Wana Decrypt0r 2.0 Ransomware is not harmful and it is the product of one of the good guys, its only purpose is to shock users slightly by displaying the scary ransom note. However, the author notes that 10 seconds after seeing the Wana Decrypt0r 2.0 Ransomware ransom message, users will see a second pop-up window telling them that this was just a test and no of their files were harmed in the process. This step is very important to mention because seeing this warning in 10 seconds means that there’s very little chance that users who see the Wana Decrypt0r 2.0 Ransomware’s note will end up deciding to pay the ransom sum.

Since the Wana Decrypt0r 2.0 Ransomware is not threatening and its best meant to be a rather strange educational tool, it can be removed manually be deleting the executable that brought it to your computer. However, if manual removal does not seem like a viable solution to some of our readers, then they’ll be glad to hear that using a credible anti-virus tool should help them remove the Wana Decrypt0r 2.0 Ransomware’s file.
