RealMe “Accidentally” Reveals the RealMe 2 on its Official Website

Tags: realme oppo phone

Oppo’s erstwhile sub-brand, Realme which recently went independent has been off to a positive start with its first product, the RealMe 1 which has been a success both critically and commercially. However, the phone maker has already begun gearing up for a successor. And our first look comes from the company itself which seems to have accidentally revealed the new phone’s teaser on its official website.

The RealMe 2, as suggested by the leak, will feature a similar design found on other Oppo phones and has a predictable “A Notch Above” tagline. The phone will be available in the company’s signature diamond-cut finishes and continue the notch tradition with a tiny bezel at the top on an otherwise edge-to-edge screen. It also shows that we can expect similar color options of Blue and Red like we saw on the Realme 1.

The image also highlights two crucial upgrades, though — the first is the fact that it comes with a fingerprint sensor which was one of the biggest complaints with the RealMe 1 and the other is a dual-camera arrangement on the rear. The majority of Oppo phones on sale in India today only have a single camera sensor on the back including the mid-ranger Oppo F7. Of course, these additions also mean the RealMe 2 certainly won’t be as affordable as the RealMe 1.

To recap, the RealMe 1 primarily grew in popularity and numbers because of its dirt cheap price and high-end hardware. The phone, which starts at Rs 8,990, is powered by the Helio P60, the same chipset found on the Oppo F7 that costs upwards of Rs 20,000. In addition, the RealMe 1 comes with a tall 1080p 6.1-inch screen which again is a rarity in the price range. Xiaomi’s Redmi Y2, in comparison, has an HD display. The RealMe 1 also has a 6GB RAM variant and a large 3,410mAh battery. RealMe as a company is now a separate entity and is being headed by Sky Li, a former senior executive of Oppo and head of Oppo India. It now remains to be seen how RealMe will manage to fight it out in this tough market as a separate entity.
