Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ Leaked all in their Glory Ahead of Official Launch

Over the past few months, Samsung’s forthcoming flagship duo — the Galaxy S9 and S9+ have been appearing in a multitude of leaks. Today, however, a new report has revealed almost every detail there is to know about the phones. As most of us expected, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be largely incremental upgrades with an onus on camera improvements.

The biggest highlight of both the phones is something called “variable aperture” for the cameras. The feature will essentially allow the user to switch different aperture sizes —  f/1.5 and f/2.4 — for clicking better pictures in both daylight and low light scenarios. Both of them sport a 12-megapixel lens on the rear and an 8-megapixel f/1.7 selfie camera on the front. In addition to that, the larger of the two, the Galaxy S9+ will have a secondary 12-megapixel optically stabilized sensor for possibly accelerating focus speeds and producing depth-of-field effects.

The Galaxy S9 will be also capable of recording slow-motion videos at 960 fps in Full HD resolution. Sony’s XZ Premium was the first smartphone to bring this ability, although with Samsung jumping on board, we can expect more OEMs to follow soon. As far as the designs are concerned, Samsung has decided to continue with the ones from last year, albeit with a marginally shrunken bezel on the chin. There will be, however, a new color option — Lilac Purple. Apart from that, the phone will be available in three more shades — Midnight Black, Titanium Gray, and Coral Blue. Moreover, the fingerprint sensor has been relocated to a slightly less awkward position below the camera setup.

The Galaxy S9 will come with a 5.8-inch SuperAMOLED Quad HD+ display, while the S9+ has a 6.2-inch screen with 2960 x 1440 pixels. Both of them feature an aspect ratio of 18.5: 9. There’s also an iris scanner for enabling facial recognition, a technology Samsung usually reserves for its Note lineup. The company is also rumored to offer an Animoji-like feature to users, although details are scant on that one for now. Another key cornerstone is the presence of AKG-branded stereo speakers.

Specifications include an Exynos 9810 octa-core or Snapdragon 845 SoC depending on the region, 4GB RAM on the S9, 6GB RAM on the S9+, 64GB of internal storage which is expandable through a MicroSD card, Android Oreo, and 3000/3500mAh (S9/S9+) battery. Both of them are waterproof as well with a rating of IP68 and feature a USB Type-C port. Samsung will be officially taking the wraps off both of these on February 25th during the Mobile World Congress. Pre-orders open on the launch day itself and shipping for orders commences on the 8th of March.
