Woods Shoots Even Par at Windy PGA National

With less than 20 players shooting below par today at the Honda Classic, Tiger Woods considered his even-par 70 an early victory.

“I’m starting to really get a feel for scoring again and scoring in tournaments,” Woods explained, “and today was a day that I’m very proud of because I missed the ball in the correct spots.”

Tiger’s only real issue was actually at the second easiest Hole on the course, the par 5 third. That’s where he would put his drive in a fairway bunker, his third shot into a green-side bunker, chunk his sand-shot, and ultimately double-bogey the hole.

That being said, if he simply pars that hole, Woods is very much in contention going into Friday’s second round.

“I’m trying to get better, more efficient at what I’m doing,” Woods said. “And also I’m actually doing it under the gun, under the pressure of having to hit golf shots, and this golf course is not forgiving whatsoever. I was very happy with the way I hit it today.”

Friday likely won’t get much easier. Historically, conditions at Pga National grow increasingly worse as the day goes on and Tiger will be teeing off at 12:35 local time.
