So...I don't know if I've mentioned this or not, probably not, but my youngest son, Thing Two, has his Driving permit. He'll be 18 next month and at the age of 18 in CA, you can get your license without even having to have had a permit. He just got his. So I'm doing my level best to take him out driving when I can because it's his full intention to walk into that DMV on his 18th birthday and get his license. Of course, he'll have to pass the test, and I would truely like him to do that, but I tell ya, my heart nearly gives out every time I get in the car with him.

I don't allow him to drive my new Pilot. No way no how! So he's learning on my old Sante Fe. The thing is, the Sante Fe is too damn much car for him right now. It's got a big engine in it, and it's heavy as hell and it doesn't stop quickly. I think I have whiplash. To my son's credit, every time I scream stop he does, but there is not a day I don't get into that car that I haven't bruised myself with my own fingernails digging into my own skin. I grab the seatbelt at my waist and pull it tight with all my might and simultaneously grab my oh shit bar and hold on and pretty much just hold my breath after screaming STOOOOOP! and that's just pulling out of the driveway. sigh...

Once the boy gets on the road he does alright...it's backing out that kills me. And stopping. And going again after a stop. But while in motion? He's not bad. When he keeps it between the dotted white line and the parked cars or the ditch that is....

On another note, I noticed this morning that I have 6 new grey hairs. Yes I count them daily. And yes...sigh...I said grey and not renegade blonde. I can't lie to myself anymore. And I'm afraid plucking is no longer an option, I'm getting a bald spot.
