How to prevent driving while drowsy

Driving while Drowsy happens to the best of us. It is felt before even getting in the car and yet it is still done anyways. People have this feeling as if they are almost superheroes and Bright Fleet has seen several incidents where an accident was caused because someone was sleepy behind the wheel. This issue is to be addressed and proper measures shall be taken in order to educate others on how to Stay Alert at the wheel.

Before driving a good night of Rest is needed. Seven to eight hours will really do the trick in order to stay awake and alert. Anything less than that may cause a bigger problem. If there is a feeling of sleepiness it is recommended to not even get out on the road. Stay away from the motor vehicle and get that rest and drive when that feeling isn’t there anymore.

Use the Rest Stops. They are there for a reason. It isn’t just some mythical place that no one goes it is very useful. Fleet Risk Management team members know how those long drives are and use those rest stops as frequently as they should. If the drive is on a time crunch then try leaving earlier so that if one has to take a nap it wont affect the entire trip.

Do not get too comfortable. Most people get comfortable and relax while driving and tend to doze off quicker that way. Sing songs or stay alert looking for signs and other means of staying awake while driving. Fleet Safety wants its drivers to stay safe on the road and driving while drowsy is not the best way to do that.

Be responsible and stop thinking about self and think about others when getting out on the road. Get the rest that is needed and then make moves thereafter. It will save a life.
