A close friend to Jackie Maribe, a top suspect in the grisly murder of Monica Kimani said yesterday that Joseph Irungu Jowie shot himself in a failed suicide attempt.
Brian Kasaine, a 25-year-old businessman, said that Jowie Irungu, popularly known as “Jowie” borrowed his Ceska pistol claiming that he wanted to train with it. The gun did not have ammunition at the time.
According to the businessman and close friend to Jackie Maribe, he was at his home in Royal Park Estate on September 21, when he was roused from his sleep at around 10. Pm by someone hammering on his gate.

When the banging failed to cease, he concluded that it was either Jackie Maribe or Jowie Irungu, since they had formed a habit of going to his house whenever they had a disagreement.
According to Brian, the two used to have regular fights. Another neighbor confirmed the claims, saying that Jackie Maribe and Jowie irungu “fought a lot.”
On opening the gate, Kasaine claimed that he found Irungu on the ground, bleeding from a wound on his left shoulder.

He then took Irungu to the Kijabe Mission hospital for treatment. The next day, Irungu and Maribe reported to the Lang’ata Police station, claiming that Irungu got shot by criminals.
Meanwhile, popular news anchor Jackie Maribe was yesterday remanded for ten days by a Kiambu court. This is in order to allow investigators to continue with their investigations on Monica Kimani’s murder.
Jackie Maribe, former CItizen TV anchor, will remain at the Gigiri Police Station where she has been since police arrested her on Saturday.
Jowie, Jackie Maribe's fiancee, is also under police custody. On Friday, detectives paid a visit to a spot in Lang’ata where it is alleged that Irungu torched some clothing items, including a Kanzu.
According to witnesses, a man wearing a Kanzu was one of the two people who visited Nyawira at her apartment before her brother later discovered her beheaded body.
