The mere mention of any of their names sends young men in Nairobi’s crime-infested areas scampering for safety.

They have an enviable record of meeting tough criminals head-on, and in most cases, the latter end up in body-bags.
Due to their insistence on using lethal force on criminal, the policemen often find themselves hounded by human rights activists. So much so that earlier this year one of them, former Githurai cop Titus Ngamau Musila, alias Katitu or King’ei, was sentenced to death over extrajudicial killings.
But he is not the only courageous Kenyan crime-buster.

1 Samson Ongero/Mkisii/Biggie
He is the most feared name in Dandora.
In his quest to rid the area off criminals, he would sometimes go undercover and dress like a Maasai watchman, a hawker, a matatu tout, or even a roast maize business man.
He was infamous for handcuffing criminals to a sturdy post, only to leave them for hours while they contemplated their chances of survival.
Some residents even claim that he is impossible to kill.

He roams the narrow streets of Kibera Slums. He is so mysterious, and no one knows his real name.
He is said to track down hardened criminals using a database of photos stored in his mobile phone.

3 Stephen Lelei/Ocampo
He served as an OCS in Nairobi and other areas around the country.
During the Westgate terror attack, he was among the first law enforcement officers to arrive on the scene. He engaged the Al-Shabaab in a lengthy gun battle before the KDF moved in.
He prefers to go on solo patrols, and has escaped a few attempts on his life.

He came on to the national limelight last year after a video of him shooting to death two young criminals went viral.
The local community holds him in high regard for taming the Super Power gang that has been terrorizing residents of Pangani.
