Covfefe: How a typo took over the internet!

Covfefe is everywhere. It seeps through the cracks of our newsfeed and greets us with a punch in memespace. This word will continue to be in public discourse for a while. We bring to you, a bit about its origins and the ocean of hilarity it has spawned.

It was 12:06am on May 31, 2016 in Washington DC. And US President Trump sent out this tweet:

Many assumed that  covfefe was simply a typo of coverage. But, instead of being instantly deleted, the tweet stayed up for several hours.

Needless to say, the internet went wild, with twitter (duh!) leading the charge.

Here are some of the best stuff we could find about Covfefe. Enjoy!

Merriam Webster reacted to the sudden surge of people trying to find out the meaning of covfefe:

Soon there was a Covefe subreddit on reddit.com (not even surprised at this point) which attracted several thousand subscribers in the span of hours.

Later the White House Press Secretary, Sean Spicer had this to say about covfefe:

“I think the president and a small group of people knew exactly what he meant”
