What does FIKA mean?
Fika is a Swedish word and concept that can be described as making time for a coffee break. This is often accompanied by pastries or sweet treats while in good company and is an important part of the Scandinavian culture. Having a daily FIKA is a way of life in Sweden but also in the rest of Scandinavia, it offers a way of both relaxing and staying connected. We do love our coffee and enjoying it slowly! If you want to find that Scandinavian feeling in New York be sure to visit FIKA, you can find several different locations all across Manhattan – each one providing a window to the Swedish coffee culture. Swedish tradition and appreciation of a coffee-centric lifestyle served as inspiration for founder and co-owner Lars Åkerlund when opening the first cafe in 2006, who saw an immediate love connection between Sweden and New York.

I visited the FIKA in Bryant Park, which is one of the larger cafes in the chain. It was open and spacious with a minimal interior style and a great selection of coffee, Scandinavian bites & chocolates.

Their menu is heavily inspired by Swedish heritage and flavors, but with an innovative and modern twist. They pride themselves on sourcing the finest coffee beans, roasting them to perfection, and creating the most delicious savory and sweet foods.
