The city of San Antonio has recently been issued a ‘non-attainment’ designation from the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). Texas state authorities have prevented EPA regulations from being placed on the city, leading San Antonio to become the last metropolitan area in the United States to be put under the Non-Attainment Designation, according to the San Antonio Express-News. So what does all of this mean for your air quality?
What is a Non-Attainment Area?
First, you should know what it means to be a non-attainment area. A non-attainment area means the air quality in a city or area is worse than the National Ambient Air Quality Standards listed in the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1970. What it means is the city will have to reduce its emissions by implementing more public transportation and by slowing down construction on highway projects.
