Quick faucet repair

Often times when one of your faucets starts to lose water pressure or the water completely stops running out of it the aerator is clogged up.  Faucets have an aerator on the end of them which have a strainer so the water comes out in a nice even stream.  A lot of older homes have galvanized pipes which decay and rot from the inside out.  If your galvanized pipes are at the end of their life and a water repipe is eminent you will lose water pressure and you will also start to see rust spots along the piping.  Galvanized pipes are like an artery inside your body.  As the years go by they build up mineral deposits inside of the pipe which cuts off water pressure, just like an artery builds up plaque and causes your heart to fail. Pieces of these mineral deposit buildups start to break free from the piping and they end up in the strainer screens in the aerator's which is the termination point for water in your plumbing system.

The first step is to shut the faucet off. The second step is to grab the aerator which is at the end of your faucet and turn it counterclockwise until it comes off of the faucet. Third step is to turn the water on both hot and cold to blow any sediment out of the faucet. Fourth step is to clean any sediment in the strainer out so the water can flow freely through it. Fifth step is to put the aerator back onto the faucet by threading it clockwise into the faucet. Follow these steps and you should be able to easily get better pressure in your old faucets.
