BAL Requirements for some additions and alterations delayed until 2018.

The Building Commission has released an update regarding the Bushfire requirements (among other items).

While requirements for new construction has not changed and will be required from March 8th. The requirements for some additions and alterations have been delayed until 2018.

Simply put:

  1. If the renovation or addition is valued at less than $20,000, or
  2. If the alteration does not increase the risk of ignition from bush fire attack for the existing building being altered. (For example, not  being extended closer to the bushland and not using flammable materials)

Then a Bal Assessment is not required.

For more clarification and examples of exempt building work you can find the full release from the Building Commission here:

Please let me know if you have any question about this or any other Energy efficiency and BAL matters. I’d be happy to help.
