One trend we’ve seen rising and falling over time is Industrial design.

It connects with a number of other, similar styles of interior design via Textures – and that’s something we’re seeing used more and more throughout the design spectrum.

Everywhere you look in industrial design, you’ll notice unique textures (it’s the most prominent feature of industrial design):

Exposed pipes and ductwork

Intentionally showing elements of construction is common in industrial design, and it ranges from beams to walls, from pipes used to hold up shelves to exposing ductwork.

While it’s common to see the actual elements of construction, often industrial design will make use of covers, faux walls, etc. to illicit the same sort of feel that displaying the authentic elements of construction provides.

Use of metal

Stainless steel counters, brushed Metal tables, even cut metal decor and metal coverings for lighting – all used commonly in industrial design.

Combination of textures

Pairing metal, wood, and brick (sometimes even unfinished stone or concrete) is extremely common in industrial design. The variety of texture is the key, and one element which differentiates itself from other design styles.
