Let me first of all start with a disclaimer. There are just 2-3 Refrigerator models that actually will cost you less than Rs. 10,000/- But if you extend your budget to Rs. 11,000/- you will find some good options that has better energy efficiency, cooling and performance.
Hence, though the title says best refrigerator in India under Rs. 10,000, we have stretched it a bit and included a few models that cost a little more than Rs. 10,000/- but definitely less than Rs. 11,000/- (Note that the price is not the MRP, rather the discounted prices that are offered on e-commerce websites. So, you may not get these refrigerators at such cheap price in a regular brick and mortar store.)
As you can guess, refrigerators selling under Rs. 10,000 are all single Door refrigerators.
The advantages of single door refrigerators are that they are energy efficient and inexpensive to maintain. On the flip side, its cooling is not as efficient as a double door refrigerator, has to be defrosted frequently and owing to limited space, it is best for bachelors or maybe homes with 2 members.
So, now, let us get on to the list of best refrigerators in India under Rs. 10,000. Note that we haven’t included in this list refrigerators with less than 100 L capacity as they are mostly used as coolers for bedrooms and not for the complete household.

With 170 L capacity and 3-star rating, Haier HRD 1703SR is a modest, yet efficient refrigerator that you can buy for less than Rs. 10,000/-
It has a fairly good cooling system, features stabilizer free operations and comes with 5-year warranty from Haier. Though it doesn’t have Haier’s 1 Hour Icing Technology, we found that ice was made in just about 90-120 minutes.
The interiors are quite basic. The freezer is compact and will fit just about 1Kg of fish/meat and ice tray. As the freezer uses diamond edge technology, ice melts slower than usual, maintaining the cooling for about 4-5 hours. However, if you live in an area with frequent power outage, we would suggest you to go with the Haier 195 L model that can a cooling pad to maintain cool temperature inside the freezer for up to 10 hours.
Underneath the freezer, there is a dairy zone to keep milk, cheese, butter and any deli products. The vegetable basket is opaque and made of food grade plastic.
The fridge also has two height adjustable wired shelf and the crisper lid too can be used as a shelf. There is ample door shelf space too, and 1 litre bottles can be kept snuggly in the door shelf.
It has been noted that the crisper doesn’t close tightly with the given lid, hence vegetables may lose its moisture and suppleness if kept in it for an extended period.
Though there are a few drawbacks, its cooling and overall performance is pretty satisfactory, making it a great choice within a limited budget.
However, if you have the means to stretch it a bit, we would urge you to buy Haier HRD-1703BRO 170 Litre refrigerator. It has a dairy zone to keep milk, cheese and deli products, height adjustable shelves made of hardened glass and above all, the vegetable box has a vent to let out excess moisture, thus helping maintain vegetables and fruits at an optimally humid condition for longer life.

Whirlpool 190 L 3 Star Direct-Cool Single Door Refrigerator (WDE 205 CLS 3S BLUE-E, Blue)

Whirlpool WDE 205 CLS 3S is a tad expensive than Haier HRD-1703SR-R that we reviewed above ( by about Rs. 400). But a larger capacity of 190 L, a spacious freezer and elegant interiors make it worth every penny.
The refrigerator uses a rotary compressor which is found to have lesser maintenance related issues and ample cooling in all the compartments.
Appearance wise, the refrigerator is available in two colours, namely wine and blue. The recessed doors impart an elegant look and you don’t have to worry about broken handles even after years of rough use.
The interiors are basic, yet well-designed to provide ample space for keeping all essentials for a small family.
The freezer is pretty spacious for a 190 L refrigerator and comes with quick ice feature that makes ice in about 2 hours.
Beneath the freezer, you have a quick chill shelf to keep milk and other dairy products.
The wired shelves are height adjustable and the door shelves are wide enough to fit 1.5 Litre bottles comfortably.
The vegetable crispers are transparent and has a firm lid and moisture control vent which lets out excess moisture when too humid and takes in moisture when too dry. Thus, it helps maintain fruits and vegetables at an optimal humidity to enhance its life.
What we found lacking is that the freezer doesn’t have any technology to maintain cooling in case of power outage—an aspect which Haier refrigerators take care of with diamond edge freezer technology and cooling pads.
Despite this, the elegant features and a light price tag make Whirlpool WDE 205 CLS one of the best-selling budget friendly refrigerators in India.

Godrej 182 L 2 Star Direct-Cool Single-Door Refrigerator (R D GD 1822 EW 2.2 Cnd Gry, Candy Grey)

Though Godrej 182 L RD GD 1822 EW refrigerator costs less than Rs. 11000, it comes with certain features that you see only in higher-end refrigerators in this segment.
The outstanding features include 20 Litre vegetable box—which is the most spacious in this segment. The vegetable box also has a hardened glass lid that can hold up to 100 Kg weight. It is also one of the few refrigerators in the segment that has enough door shelf width to keep 2.5 litre bottles.

A notable feature of the refrigerator is that you can adjust the cooling in 4 settings namely winter, monsoon, spring and summer (ranging from cold to coldest).
On the flip side, Godrej RD GD 1822 EW refrigerator has just 2-star energy efficiency rating while the former two entries have 3-star rating. Though the manufacturer says stabilizer free operations for 140-290V, we still recommend using a stabilizer for better performance. The freezer doesn’t have any system to maintain cooling in case of power failure too.
Though you can’t expect from the lifespan of a higher end single door refrigerator, Godrej RD GD 1822 EW is one of the best bet if you are in the city for a few years and want a makeshift refrigerator with useful features and does a decent job of keeping food cool and preserved.
