Gloss vs Matt – Which Kitchen Finish Will You Choose?

Decorating your Kitchen can be fun and exciting but there is a lot of hassle that comes with it. One of the biggest decisions is deciding on the finish your kitchen doors will have. Don’t worry this article will explain everything.

Types of finish

There are multiple types of finishes your kitchen doors could have but the two most popular finishes are gloss and Matt. High gloss doors have made a come back in popularity over the recent years. This finish is more suited with flat cabinets and a contemporary style kitchen. High gloss doors have a smooth and shiny finish, this reflects light and makes your kitchen look that little bit brighter. Matt Doors are the opposite. If you have a more traditional kitchen then Matt door is your best option. Matt doors don’t reflect light which makes them look quite flat.

High Gloss Kitchen Doors

High gloss doors reflect the light which makes your kitchen look brighter, it also makes the kitchen look more open. This is better with paler colors because the reflection of light is higher. High gloss doors are the easiest to clean which is why they are so popular. However due to their finish marks like fingerprints and scratches are more visible. If you are worried about your doors getting marked, then having high gloss doors on your high cabinets would be the best option.

Matt Kitchen Doors

Matt doors are quite popular. Fingerprints and scratches aren’t as visible on Matt doors which makes them ideal for a house with a young family. Matt doors are more consistent. However, Matt doors absorb the light rather than reflecting it outwards. Matt doors aren’t as easy to clean, this is caused by the textured surface. Also, Matt doors tend to make the kitchen look smaller. If you don’t want your kitchen to look too bland then go for doors that have a type of style for example shaker doors.

So, which is the best?

In my opinion, I think Matt doors are the best, they are consistent, they don’t mark easily, and you have a range of styles to choose from. Which kitchen doors do you prefer?
