The holidays are upon us and if you’re having people over, your Holiday Centerpiece or tablescape is a beautiful component of entertaining. This can be as simple or ornate as you want. Let your imagination go wild.
Of course, these tips refers to the arrangement you create on your dining table, but the principals carry over to your mantle, breakfast bar, and other areas of your house. Just remember to have fun and share your creations with us! Here are a few things I’ve learned over the years.
Keep It Conversational Height
One mistake I see people making is building very tall centerpieces that impede conversation. While it’s great to have one tall element, be sure it’s some thing people can look around or over. Otherwise, your beautiful holiday Centerpiece will be like a wall that prevents conversation.
Bring the Outdoors In
Nothing creates a more classic or beautiful holiday centerpiece than fresh flowers and greenery. It looks beautiful arranged in vases, as well as more unexpected ways, like the photo above. Including fall-colored flowers is a wonderful way to anchor a centerpiece and provide something that looks and smells great. Adding in fresh-cut rosemary or eucalyptus fills out the bouquet.
Always Remember the Candles
Nothing says cozy like the warmth of candles (remember my post a few weeks ago on making your home have hygge?). Include candles of different heights, from tea candles to pillar, in an odd number for maximum effect. I think pairing candles with fresh greenery or flowers creates an unbeatable holiday centerpiece or tablescape, don’t you? Just be sure you always follow candle safety rules, and if you’ve got kids under 12 included in your gathering, keep all flame out of reach.
Go a Little Glam
For Christmas and New Year’s Eve decorating, I love to go a little glam! The colors of holiday decor naturally lead to this design choice, and you can pick up all sort of sparkly, bling-y items at your local home goods store or online. Everything from napkin rings to
One of my favorite DIY ideas is to paint a small pumpkin, squash, or gourd silver or gold and include that on the table. You can even sprinkle with some glitter while it’s wet for extra wow factor.
