LITTLE HELPERS for a Hot Summer's Day

The Summer started quite late here in Germany this year.  Early on in the season, it was jokingly  mentioned during the weather reports that Nordic volcanic ashes were blocking the summer sun and we would have to wait until next year to enjoy summer again.  From the beginning to mid July, the temperature changed drastically from cold and rain to a scorching inferno at times reaching 40° Celsius.  Being that the temperature on a typical Northern European summer's day ranges from 20-25 degrees, air conditioning is  pretty much non-existent or rather unnecessary.

Due to this excessive heat, it was necessary to dig deep into my cosmetic cabinet for products which perform well in hot weather.  I also needed  products which were portable for use in the office (where it was virtually cooking) or when on the go. Going swimming this summer has not been and most likely will not be an option as the Alpine lakes are still "Eis Kalt" due to the lack of sun early on in the season.

Below are some products which have done a great job of keeping me cool this summer:

Avene Thermal Spring Water Spray -  actually this has been a staple in my beauty cabinet for years.  I use this as a toner when my face is irritated or for removing make up.   This product is multi-functional but I find myself using it most frequently in summer.  Avenue Thermal Spring water comes in various sizes ranging from 50 to 300 ml and the smaller sizes can easily fit into one purse.  I also keep a can in my desk draw at work.  I spray this at leasure on my face and chest when needed as the day progresses.  It is also very useful when going for walks, in the gym or running around in the city.

If you are not able to purchase Avene products near you, the  La Roche Posay range also contains a Thermal Spring Water which is just as lovely and in the same price range as Avene.
Dior Escale Series -   Escale à Pondichery is so far the fragrance which I have worn most this summer.  Black tea extracts laced with cardamom and a dab of Jasmin for an added feminine touch.  This is an EdT however the lasting power is quite good making it well worth the money.  I very seldom have to reapply during the day.  The Escale series also contains Escale à Portofino which is a lovely citrus scent for summer.

La Prairie Cellular Energizing Body Spray is a saving grace.  This product is on part skincare and one part fragrance all in one. It provides a light veil of moisture to the skin and marine derived sea acids help to maintain the skins texture.  When the temperature sores to 40° and it is humid outside, body lotion or anything containing oil can be very uninviting.  This body spray is delicately perfumed with grapefruit, Italian bergamot, cardamon and fresh verbena.  This keeps me feeling and smelling fresh all day.  This product has been in my perfume/skincare collection for quite some years and has attained the status of Holly Grain as I have received so many compliments wearing it.

I would be very interested to know what products you are using to keep cool this summer.  Please drop me a line and share.
