2017 Do Over

So last year I started out with great enthusiasm and my two Rock Farm plots.  Wanting to try to eek out a little more light, I asked to trade one of my spots for a sunnier spot if one was available.  Another spot was available and I was given the option of trying all three spots for the season before deciding on which one(s) I wanted.   The new spot was in the same row but at the far end of the two spots I was already using.  Not long after I had paid the dues for the year I rec’d a call that a spot had become available in the Garden right around the corner from my house.  I had been on the waiting list for this one since I had moved to the area in 2013 and couldn’t very well let it go. Sooo, against my better judgement, I had four spots to garden.

With double the space I had been tending I opted to try some winter squash and three varieties of potatoes in pots.  It was a lot of work, I’m glad I had it but I’ll never do that again.   With my commute, my days are every bit of 12 hours long.  It didn’t leave much time for anything other than tending the garden, watering, harvesting etc.

Fast forward to the end of the season and as much as I had enjoyed gardening there, I had decided that give up all of the Rock Farm spots and stick with the new garden spot withing walking distance of home.  I’m having to pare down to the essentials and may go back to RF at some point but for now I’m happy that I can enjoy my garden without it taking up every moment of my free time.
