What’s Happening at Disneyland 2017

Hey Everyone, it’s Kimberly from Get Away Today and I’m so excited to talk about my favorite vacation destination… Disneyland. There is always something new and 2017 is no exception. If you are thinking of a trip to Disneyland, this is the perfect year to go! I’ve put together your guide to Disneyland 2017 to help you plan.

Disneyland has a reputation for always changing things up. Whether they are adding new attractions or bringing back old favorites, they are sure to make your vacation one to remember. I’ve put together a list of all that’s happening this year so you can decide when to book your Disneyland 2017 vacation:

The Main Street Electrical Parade is BACK in Disneyland! Now until June 18, 2017, you can reminisce on the good ol’ days while watching this nostalgic parade. I totally remember this one from when I was a kid at Disneyland and it was my FAVORITE. The last time I saw it was in Disney California Adventure Park years ago and I was so sad when it moved to Florida. But, if you want to see the Main Street Electrical Parade in its original home, you’ll have to hurry. Rumors are that the parade may be retired permanently after June 18th.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! is coming to Disney California Adventure this summer on May 27th. The attraction will use the soundtrack from the Guardians of the Galaxy and it will be a different experience each time you ride. Although it was sad to see Tower of Terror go, I am sure it is going to be amazing. I am so excited to see how it turns out.

Summer of Heroes will open on May 27th in conjunction with the Guardians of the Galaxy attraction and sounds amazing. Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off! will be taking place in Hollywood Land over by Monsters Inc.: Mike and Sulley to the Rescue. It will be similar to the Mad T Party, but with characters from Guardians, obvs.

Also, a new Avengers Training Initiative experience will be opening, similar to the Jedi Training in Tomorrowland. But this one features Black Widow and Hawkeye. You can also meet Captain America, Spider-Man, Groot and Black Widow all around Hollywood Land.

Summer of Heroes officially ends on September 10th, but The Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off! and Super Hero Encounters with Groot, Captain America and Spider-Man will be around for the rest of the year.

The Rivers of America will reopen in the summer of 2017. We have heard May 27th, but that is just rumor as of now. If you’ve been to Disneyland over the last year and a half, you’ve most likely noticed its closure. This means that Fantasmic!, Tom Sawyer’s Island, the Davy Crockett Canoes, the Mark Twain Riverboat and the Disneyland Railroad will all open again. Yay! You won’t want to miss the return of Fantasmic! This classic nighttime show is a must see when visiting the park this summer, and you’ll want to grab a Fastpass for it. The Disneyland Railroad will also return sometime later (for sure NOT May 27th) with a *slightly* altered track with the building of Star Wars Land. Riding the train around the park is one of my favorite ways to take a little rest during the middle of the day.

“Remember…Dreams Come True” Fireworks made its triumphant return last month. It’s easily one of my favorite fireworks show, and is likely it will only be available at Disneyland in 2017. An end date hasn’t been released, so I recommend a visit earlier in the year to be sure you don’t miss it. Also, you should be aware that the fireworks only happen on the weekends most of the year. Keep that in mind when planning your vacation.

Season of the Force is here and better than ever as part of the Disneyland 2017 line-up. It is a Star Wars overlay that has completely taken over Tomorrowland. With attractions like Hyperspace Mountain, Path of the Jedi, Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple, Star Wars Launch Bay, Star Tours and the Galactic Grill, you won’t want to miss it.

There may be something there that wasn’t there before… limited-time Beauty and the Beast experiences are now open at Disneyland! Enjoy exclusive food, meet Gaston, hear a re-telling of the tale as old as time, purchase all new merchandise and so much more! These Beauty and the Beast experiences will only be here for a short time, so be sure to be a guest at Disneyland soon.

This year, Disney California Adventure Park is also hosting a Food & Wine Festival from March 10 – April 16, 2017. If you’re a foodie, or just want to try something new, this would be a great time to go.

Also, in huge news, The Disneyland Resort has announced Fastpasses will be coming for Toy Story Mania in California Adventure and The Matterhorn in Disneyland. I am so excited! There is no official date for when these will be available, but my bet would be summer. Disneyland has also announced a new Disney MaxPass, but there aren’t a ton of details yet. It will allow you to get Fastpasses with your smartphone and includes digital downloads from your Disney Photopass. It should be pretty awesome.

If you haven’t been to Disneyland within the last year, you’ll also want to know about Frozen – LIVE at the Hyperion and Soarin’ Around the World, both in California Adventure. Frozen is a full-scale Broadway style show that is incredible. It’s about an hour long and has some of the most incredible special effects I’ve ever seen in live theater. Soarin’ Around the World replaced Soarin’ Over California and includes stunning scenery from around the globe… and a few surprises.

Of course, Halloween Time and Holidays at the Disneyland Resort will be back in Disneyland 2017. While official dates haven’t been announced, you can always bet on Halloween Time kicking off mid-September and going through Halloween. The Holidays begin mid-November and continue through the first week in January.
