We all know that no matter how hard we try to prevent Rats and mice from entering our home, these rodents seem to be very clever when it comes to finding ways to enter a place where they can find food and shelter. However, there is nothing to worry about. Although getting rid of mice and rats might not be a pretty job, it can certainly be done quickly and without any particular problems.

Using Traps is usually a very efficient way to get rid of mice and rats regardless of whether you use some kind of bait or not. There are actually quite a few advantages of using traps. First of all, they are cheap and very easy to use. You can leave them for longer periods of time if you don’t use any kind of bait, however, you need to check them quite often in order to avoid keeping a dead mouse or rat in your house for too long. The only disadvantage is that when using some kinds of bait, you might attract other unwanted creatures such as insects for instance.

There are a couple of traps that can be used. Snap traps are probably the cheapest option and they are usually made of wood or plastic. The best thing about them is that they can be reused, however, if you don’t like the idea of getting rid of a dead mouse or a rat attached to the trap, you can simply get rid of the whole trap, especially because the traps themselves are not expensive. In case you are trying to capture a rat, make sure that you use bigger traps because small ones are simply too small to hold a rat.

Live traps are a better option for those that do not want to kill a mouse or a rat or for those that want to avoid having a dead animal in their house. Live traps are designed in such a way that a rodent can easily enter the trap. Given their tendency to inspect holes, rodents will probably enter the hole, after which the mechanism in the trap will close the hole and they will be trapped. After that, you have two options. You can either release the mouse or the rat somewhere far away from your home or you can kill it by using the appropriate products.

A glueboard is another type of trap that is actually a piece of cardboard that has glue on it. The idea is to get mice and rats glued to the trap so that they cannot escape. The disadvantages of these types of traps is that they are considered to be inhumane and what’s more, rats seems to be too big for them as in most cases, they can easily escape the trap.

When it comes to the types of bait that can be used, bear in mind that cheese is not the most efficient bait. Instead, you are encouraged to use peanut butter, nuts, sticky candies, bacon and dried food.

And finally, pesticides can be used, but they are not usually recommended for home use and other cases where the rodent population is not very high.
