Scrapbook Sunday Blog Hop: How to use Repetition!

This page is primarily a traditional scrapbook page but I did use a Memories & More card from the Perfect Days Memories & More Card Pack. The “Life is Good” is die cut using the Stitched Shapes Framelits. When pulling this page together, I found this card from the Perfect Days and knew it was perfect.

Oh, and, don’t forget to mark your calendars for next month! The Scrapbook Sunday Blog Hop is the THIRD Sunday of each month! So, we will be back on February 17, 2018 with scrapbook inspiration using Stampin’ Up! Products!

Scrapbook Sunday Blog Hop

Life is Good Hybrid Scrapbook Page

This month’s Blog Hop is all about color: Coral, Green and Black. I’ve focused primarily on Green with accents of Calypso Coral with Black. As I was planning this page, I first looked through my photos keeping in mind the colors for this months Blog Hop Theme. When I came across the photos of Caleb with Grandpa and Minnesota Mater, I instantly knew I had to use these photos. I looked at the photos and instantly saw shades of “coral” with the rust on the tow truck. The colors on the photo were the perfect compliment to the theme.

I scrapbook to memorialize special moments in the life of my family. My dad means the world to me and I love the relationship that he has with Caleb. Caleb is special needs. There are times that even I struggle with how to handle his Special Needs so I know it is also difficult for my dad. Yet, my dad has a special relationship with Caleb. They love to argue about M&M’s, ride on the lawn mower together and spend time on the lake in Grandpa’s Pontoon.

Hybrid 12×12 Scrapbook with Memories & More Perfect Days

The Memories & More line by Stampin’ Up! is perfect for scrapbooking. These cards make it so easy to scrapbook. You can do pocket scrapbooks by just slipping your photos into the album pockets with a few of the cards thrown in to tell a story. Or, you can use them on a 12×12 Scrapbook Page like I did to create a hybrid scrapbook page.

As I was putting this page together, I ran into a problem. I needed something for the bottom of the page (confession… it is hiding an “oops”) but I had NOTHING for stamps that fit what I wanted. Then I remembered the Memories & More Perfect Days cards. I found the “Life is Good” and it was perfect!

Using repetition to tell a story on Scrapbook Pages

Utilizing repetition when scrapbooking can help you create unity, balance and certain flow to your scrapbook page. Think of it as a way to reinforce the story you are telling. With repetition you are creating a rhythm that helps with the flow of your page. Using repeat elements can help guide the eye of the viewer. So, what are some of the ways you can create repetition on your Scrapbook Pages?

  1. Repeat colors.
  2. Repeat a Pattern, Shape or Motif
  3. Use multiple photos that are similar in a repeat manner
  4. Repeat the use of a particular embellishment or element.

How did I use repetition?

On today’s scrapbook page, I actually used multiple forms of repetition. The primary form of repetition that really stands out though is the use of multiple photos that are very similar and lined up in a row. In each photo, you see my son with Grandpa and Mater. Each photo is slightly different. In the photos, my son is interacting with Grandpa or Mater in different ways.

I also love to use embellishments in a repetitious way to help with the flow of a scrapbook page. If you look at the 12×12 Scrapbook page, you’ll notice that I’ve used Sequins in clusters of three in a triangular pattern on the page. The wooden star elements also help create a repeat pattern.

Color is another great example of repetition. Staying with the theme of this months Blog Hop, this scrapbook features three colors with the use of Calypso Coral, Emerald Envy and Black. The colors help focus your attention on various elements of the page. For example, in the upper right corner, I have the black strips heat embossed with Whisper White ink for the “Grandpa & Me.” Then the black leads to the Emerald Envy strips heat embossed with black and the “Life’s a Journey” badge.

SunnyGirlScraps Scrapbook Tips and Tricks:

  • Struggling with a creative block? Use repetition to help you find inspiration as you scrapbook.
  • Choose elements that coordinate with your photos.
  • Have fun with your elements… On this page, I used white craft ink to distress the Designer Series Paper behind the photos. I also added Calypso Coral Reinker to the Silver Embossing Paste and added focal interest behind the photos.
  • Use pocket scrapbook cards such as the Memories & More Perfect Days cards on traditional scrapbook pages to help “fix” a problem.

Life is Good Memories & More Scrapbook Page Details:

  • The 12 x 12 base features a sheet of Pick A Pattern Designer Series Paper.
  • At the top of the page, I added a strip of the Petal Passion Designer Series Paper.
  • Using Stampin’ Up! Whisper White Craft Ink, I smudge the ink pad on the Pick A Pattern Designer Series Paper then used the heat gun to set the ink.
  • I stamped on the Pick A Pattern Designer Series Paper with the Stampin’ Up! Basic Black Archival Ink using the One Wild Ride Stamp Set.
  • After determining the location of the photos, I added a strip of the Pick a Pattern Washi Tape.
  • A fun element I added is Silver Embossing Paste mixed with Calypso Coral Reinker. OK, let me just say this is SO cool and I love how the Silver Embossing Paste mixed with the Calypso Coral has a copper feel to it!
  • Behind the photo grouping, I’ve taken a strip of Calypso Coral card stock that I’ve distressed using the edge of my paper snips. Craze matte  to help the photo “pop” against the Painted Autumn background.
  • I heat embossed the black strips using white embossing powder then heat embossed the green strips with black ink and clear embossing powder. Stamp Sets used were Guy Greetings, Thoughtful Banners and Tabs for Everything Stamp Sets.
  • The “Life’s A Journey” is stamped from the One Wild Ride Stamp Set and punched out using the Best Badge Punch.
  • I used the Memories & More Perfect Days cards for the “Life is Good” which is die cut using the Stitched Shapes Framelits and Layering Oval Framelits.
  • This page features Journaling that is typed on the computer then printed onto vellum cardstock.
  • I’ve attached Stars from the Hearts & Stars Elements pack.
  • Finally, I finished the page by adding black sequins from the Metallics Sequin Assortments.
