Best-ever sugar cookies

I’m getting ready to share something amazing with you… my most cherished recipe. These are the best-ever sugar cookies and that is not an exaggeration. This recipe was given to me by a friend many years ago and it is always a hit. I have friends and family that are always requesting these and I don’t blame them because they are so good! These cookies are soft and chewy and they don’t lose their shape in the oven. They aren’t too sweet, but when combined with the Glaze, they are the perfect Cookie. This post may contain affiliate links. Full disclosure is on my contact page.  Gather all the ingredients. Cream butter and sugar. Set your butter out ahead of time so that it’s room temperature. Do not use melted butter. Add the sour cream, eggs, vanilla and lemon juice. Combine all the dry ingredients in a separate bowl and slowly add to the mixer. Your dough will be thick and sticky. Place in the fridge for at least an hour or overnight. After your dough has been chilled, roll it out on a floured surface… about 1/8″ and cut with cookie cutters. Bake for 8-10 minutes. The cookies rise, but will not spread out on the pan so you can place them close to each other. My cookies cook perfectly in 8 minutes, but they will burn easily so make sure you check on them. While your cookies are cooling, mix the ingredients for the glaze. Like I said, the cookies aren’t very sweet, but once you add this glaze – it’s like cookie heaven! You can spread the glaze on the cookies with a butter knife or put it in a bag and squeeze onto the cookies. The glaze is amazing because it spreads into a smooth and shiny finish. I had this little cookie cutter (my husband thinks they are bells) and I decided to use it to make little acorn cookies. After I glazed a cookie, I dipped half into a bowl of pink sugar sprinkles. Let your cookies sit out so the glaze can dry completely. I don’t know exactly how many cookies this recipe makes, but it makes a ton! I’m pretty sure I made 5,000 acorn cookies and it took forever, but it was totally worth it. Look at how cute they are! I also have to warn you that once you make these and share them, people are always going to request them!
