A Finish: Canada 151

Here is Canada 151, named because I used fabrics that were released to commemorate the Canadian sesquicentennial last year, and then didn’t actually make anything until just before Canada Day this year, finishing up on the stat day itself!

Here are some of my favourite squares:

Apart from changing my mind on the quilting after I had already startted, it was a super quick finish, and it was going to have maple leaf blocks in it but they didn’t really go so I scrapped that plan and kept it simple. I don’t actually think I’ve ever pieced a quilt this quickly before, so it was a nice break and took something out of the WIP pile. It also means I sneak in a Finish Along finish!

This will be released as a free pattern for you to use for the same fabric lines, or other feature fabrics, Panels and large scale prints that you love. It might even work for T-Shirt quilts depending on the size of the middle panel. Come back tomorrow for the free download!

STATS
Size – 78″ x 91″
Number of blocks – 23 panels and some filler bits
Time to make – About 2 1/2 hours of piecing (woohoo) with pressing, cutting, quilting and binding included, about 6-8 hours
Fabric – Kona Black and Kona Canada Red (a special limited edition colour I grabbed last year with the panels), plus Discover Canada 1 map and postcard panels (x2 types), plus a second lot of panels from Discover Canada 2
Binding Fabric – Black Kona
Backing Fabric
 – Some stash muslin print stuff I had
Threads – Pieced with black 50 wt Aurifil. No white Konfetti cone thread this time!
Batting – Hobbs 80/20
Quilting – Straight lines on the diagonal. There are some small puckers on the back but this always seems to happen when I straight line quilt. It’s not too bad.
