Melbourne’s hot new tables: July 2017

Friends are always asking me what the best new restaurants and cafes are to go to. I generally have my own personal list of new places I’ve heard have opened and eateries I’ve checked out myself so I thought it might be helpful to collate them here as a useful guide to what’s hot and new each month. This month there’s lots to choose from, get your eating pants on:

Resto Bobo

Tarte flambee at Resto Bobo

Fans of French fromage rejoice! Australia’s first Tarte Flambée restaurant is now open at the Windsor end of Chapel street. Tarte Flambée is like a French version of pizza. Resto Bobo’s tartes are made with a crispy base and topped with imported French cheese. There are French (and Aussie) wines to match. It’s a small space just down from the always heaving Hawker Hall. Rough brick walls and high bar stools and tables give the place a casual feel. You’ll find me here snuggled up on a winter evening with the tarte topped with goats cheese and prunes and a glass of vin rouge.

House of LuLu White

There’s a new name, a new look and a new menu for what was South Yarra cafe and restaurant Sth Central. Caterers to the stars, Tommy Collins, and hospitality pro Leeroy Smith are behind the House of Lulu White and they’ve had a bit of fun with this one with a quirky menu split into ‘naughty’ and ‘nice’. Personally they had me at breakfast ramen although I must also admit the phrase ‘bottomless brunch’ also caught my attention. On the weekend you can act like you’re in NYC and have 1.5 hours of drinks to go with your brunch for $30. Dangerous.

Wings of Glory

Buffalo wings a go at Wings of Glory: Pic supplied

Lunch time in the CBD just got spicier with the opening of a branch of South Melbourne chicken wings store Wings of Glory. The boneless wings and chicken wraps are finger lickin’ good and there’s a special shout out for the chips which are hand cut and double cooked.  Everything is made on site at this casual little place which is cheap, cheerful and totally addictive. Wings of Glory is also licensed for when lunch becomes a long lunch or even linner.

Wings of Glory, 288 Little Lonsdale Street, Melbourne CBD.
