Melbourne’s got a brand new Hotel which has just opened in the Docklands. Four Points by Sheraton is bringing a touch of luxury to the still mainly undeveloped far end of the Docklands and I was invited to check in for an overnight stay.
Once you step inside the hotel impresses with soaring ceilings in the lobby and a brightly coloured contemporary art mural along one wall. The hotel bar is a brew bar featuring international and craft beers including local favourite Mountain Goat.
A quick elevator ride takes me up into my room on the 15th floor of the hotel. Everything is still so new and shiny. There’s a bathroom with two shower head options including a large rain shower and built in cupboards opposite contain a bar fridge and tea and coffee making facilities.
The room is dominated by the huge king size bed. There are soft white sheets and pillows for miles. Thoughtful touches include the built in USB points beside the bed for charging phones and electronic devices. Wifi is sensibly included.
Hooray for no beige! A moody palette of blacks, greys and blues really makes the stunning view out over the Bolte bridge pop.
I got a fabulous night sleep (which might have been due to the huge bed at Four Points Sheraton or the fact that my children were several kilometres away) and headed downstairs to check out the hotel’s pool. A roof top pool (on the 7th floor) is what really puts Four Point Sheraton ahead of the rest of the pack. It’s a decent size at 25 metres and just the thing for a night time dip or pre breakfast exercise.
Breakfast itself is of the classic buffet variety. There are cereals, fresh fruit, toast and pastries and a hot selection of scrambled eggs, bacon and hash browns. The fruit salad selection could have done with a bit more variety but mini pots of Bircher muesli are spot on. All too soon it’s time to check out.
The Four Points by Sheraton is a welcome burst of colour in a world of beigetastic large hotels. Bonus points for the luxury of a roof top swimming pool. I can’t say I love the location but if you need to be in the Docklands, getting to the footy or south end of the CBD it is convenient. It’s a great new option for Melbourne.
