FOLDABLE TOUCH SCREEN SMARTPHONE

Foldable phone to expect in 2019

Samsung Galaxy X

This interface was shown in a patent, which also gave us another look at the possible design of the Phone, showing something with a laptop-like design, but a second Screen where the keyboard would be.

According to reports out of Korea, the X is extra interesting as it supposedly has three screens instead of two, essentially delivering a device that transitions from a phone to tablet. The front of the Galaxy X reportedly has two 3.5-inch screens, which become a 7-inch tablet when folded. The rear of the device has a third 3.5-inch screen that allows it to be viewed even when folded down.

Apparently the screens for this device will be ready by November 2018 and Samsung has created a curved battery for the phone with a capacity of between 3,000mAh and 6,000mAh.

Many speculate that a foldable smartphone would give users an option to have a much bigger display. Many Samsung patents and prototypes suggest a device that opens and closes inward like a book, or closes down horizontally like a notepad.

Most Galaxy X concepts suggest a foldable phone would have a maximum screen size comparable to a tablet, where the display could be split into two panels that display different things or one big picture.

As for when you will be able to buy it, more than one rumor has now pointed to a proper announcement in February, possibly at MWC 2019. That event takes place at the end of the month, so the Galaxy X probably wouldn't go on sale in that case before March 2019.

You may have to pay a lot for it too as an analyst reckons the Samsung Galaxy X price could reach ₩2,000,000 (around $1,850, £1,375, AU$2,400).
