Fitness and Nutrition Tips for Teens



The Teen years are some of the most important years for growing. It is also a time when body image and self esteem are becoming issues. Between school, after school activities, Family life, and friends, a teen has a busy life. It is important to fuel your body to keep it going strong and healthy. This means eating nutritiously and incorporating fitness into your everyday life. As a teen, this can be difficult to accomplish.

Many Teens tend to eat on the go, eat fast food, and sit around watching TV or playing video games. While this is okay sometimes, doing so on a daily basis is not healthy. There are many ways to change your habits to become healthier person. One of the most important tips for teens is to make sure to eat a healthy breakfast everyday. Eating breakfast has proven to help performance in school and help with keeping a healthy weight. Breakfast can be as a simple as a bowl of nutritious cereal and yogurt. It is important to set aside enough time to eat breakfast before heading to school.

Another important tip is to eat dinner as a family. Teens are more likely to eat better when dinner is served as a family meal. It also will help with family communication and give teens a chance to connect with their parents. This may be difficult to accomplish, as many parents work different hours. However, it is a good idea to set aside a couple of times a week for a family dinner.

Snacks can be nutritious too. Potato chips and cookies are okay as a treat, but not as an everyday snack. As an after school snack, teens should go for yogurt and granola, or apples and peanut butter. Easy to pack snacks include granola bars, fruit, string cheese, and cheese crackers. An afternoon snack is especially important for teens who participate in after school sports. Carbs and proteins will give them the energy they need.

The best way for a teen to stay fit is to participate in something they enjoy. Sports are a good way for teens to get exercise. swimming, walking pets, going for a bike ride, or dancing. It is important to find something you have fun doing. A good idea is to do activities with friends or family members.

On the other side of things, it is important to remember not to go overboard when it comes to nutrition and fitness. Eating disorders are more common than you may think among teenagers. Eating food in moderation is key. Do not restrict from certain foods. Do not exercise more than your body can handle. Most importantly, do not let your body and weight take over your whole life. Enjoy your teen years!
