Overview of Periodontal disease

Periodontal Disease is popularly known as gum diseases. It is a kind of infection of the tissue that may develop between your teeth. Periodontal diseases affect the gum line of your teeth and cause problems and pain in your supportive structures. Also, it affects the supportive structures that keep the tooth in its place. In this disease, a pocket begins to form in the infected area majorly between teeth. The disease is broadly classified into two major stages namely, gingivitis, and periodontitis.

Gingivitis is a milder form of gun disease in which, gums area affected only and can be treated with reversible possible treatment option. If proper care is not taken at the time of treatment, gingivtitis may become serious and can be converted into periodontitis, which is a dangerous form of gum disease.

Factors responsible for periodontal diseases:
• Excess tobacco consumption
• Diseases such as diabetes
• Medication such as steroids, anti-epilepsy drugs, cancer therapy, and other such drugs
• Oral contraceptives
• Unfit bridges
• Defective teeth fillings
