Mimosa Bloom Glycerin Soap

Are super cute Soaps your undoing? If so, I've got bad news. Our resident soap maker, Kelly Owens, has just whipped up a batch of kryptonite.

These soaps are adorable. Kelly used two layers of our Melt & Pour Soap Base to create these sweet and colorful little flower soaps. The first layer uses Suspension Base to suspend a flurry of tiny Dutch Blue Poppy Seeds in pretty pink soap. The second layer used our Cocoa Butter Base, a rich and creamy moisturizing soap base that gives these bars a gorgeous fluffy lather.

Kelly used our Mimosa Fragrance Oil and Pink Glimmer Mica to scent and color this project. You can easily make this your own by swapping the fragrance out for another floral Fragrance Oil or Essential Oil. Defnitely check out our Exotic Floral Fragrance Oil Sampler for some additional ideas. Using a different colored Mica is another way to quickly customize this project. These soaps would look beautiful with our Lavender or Silver Sparkle Micas.

And of course, you can use a differently shaped mold! The mold Kelly used is available here, or you can try one of our Star Shaped Molds. (We still have a few left on clearance!)

Mimosa Bloom Glycerin Soap
Makes about four 3-ounce soaps

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces Suspension Melt and Pour Base
  • 4 ounces Cocoa Butter Melt and Pour Base
  • 2 teaspoons Mimosa Fragrance Oil, divided
  • 1/4 teaspoon Pink Glimmer Mica
  • 1 teaspoon Dutch Blue Poppy Seeds

Directions

  1. Using a sharp kitchen knife, carefully chop the Melt & Pour Soap Bases into cubes.
  2. Melt the Suspension Melt and Pour base in a double boiler over medium to high heat.
  3. Pour the melted from the double boiler into a small mixing bowl or pyrex dish. We've found that using a pre-warmed pyrex dish can be very helpful.
  4. Add one teaspoon of the fragrance oil and the mica to your melted soap base and gently stir.
  5. Add Poppy Seeds and fill soap molds about 3/4 the way up, leaving room for the second layer of soap.
  6. Spritz soap surface with alcohol to remove bubbles and help adhere layers. Let soap cool as second layer is prepared.
  7. Melt Cocoa Butter Melt and Pour Base in a double boiler over medium to high heat.
  8. Pour the melted from the double boiler into a small mixing bowl or pyrex dish.
  9. Add one teaspoon of the fragrance oil and gently stir.
  10. Allow mixture to cool for 1-2 minutes before pouring into molds - over the first layer of soap.
  11. Spritz soap surface with alcohol to remove bubbles.
  12. Allow soaps to cool completely before removing from molds. Once cooled, turn molds over and gently press to release the soaps. If the soaps are sticking, try putting the mold in the freezer for 1-2 minutes before trying again.
  13. Wrap soaps in plastic wrap or tightly sealed Cello Bags as soon as they are fully cooled.

Tip: Humidity in the air can cause the glycerin in your soaps to sweat, creating small beads of moisture on the soap's surface. Keep your soaps as dry as possible to avoid this happening. If your soaps do sweat, simply wipe them off with a warm, slightly damp paper towel. You can add a few drops of alcohol to the towel for a smooth finish.
