How Long Does Baby Acne Last?

How Long Does Baby Acne Last?

Baby Acne can appear anytime within the first 6 months after your baby is born. Usually, you can see it between the age of 3 and 6 weeks.

It is very similar to the acne that a teenager has. Your baby may get red or yellow bumps on its face.

Parents get worried about baby acne because of the way it looks. However, don’t worry, baby acne doesn’t bother babies at all.

  A)   What causes baby acne and how long does it last?

Baby acne is just like teenage acne. It is a result of bacteria, oils, and hormones.

A school of thought believes that baby acne may be caused due to the mother’s hormones reacting with the baby’s natural body oil.

Usually, baby acne will last for a month, but in the case of a few babies, it may stay for a period of 3 months.

  B)   How do you treat baby acne?

Remember that baby acne is temporary in nature and will generally go away within 6 months of its age. However, nobody would like to see acne on his or her baby’s face.

Here are a few natural home remedies you can use to treat baby acne:

  C)   Natural remedies for baby acne

1) Breast milk for baby acne

Breast milk is the greatest food for newborn babies. Feeding your baby breast milk helps build its immune system. It also has a lot of other benefits for its skin too.

The lauric acid in your breast milk is strong in acne fighting and anti-bacterial properties. Your breast milk also has glyconutrients and omega-3 fatty acids.

These help in gentle exfoliation of your baby’s skin and helps cure baby acne. Dab some breast milk using a cotton pad on your baby’s affected area after cleaning it thoroughly.

Allow it to dry and rinse off after half an hour. Repeat many times daily until the acne goes away.

2) Honey mixed in lemon juice

Lemon juice and honey have anti-inflammatory properties which can help in treating your baby’s acne. Mix 1 teaspoonful of honey and lemon juice.

Dip some cotton in the solution and apply on the affected area. Leave on for 30 minutes and rinse off with warm water. Pat dry with a clean towel. Repeat twice a day until the acne disappears.

3) Coconut oil for baby skin

Use of coconut oil to treat baby acne is very safe. The oil is incredibly nourishing for your baby’s skin. It has natural anti-microbial properties.

Apply a small amount of coconut oil to your baby’s affected area twice a day and the acne will go away in a few days’ time.

4) Cornstarch for acne

You can use cornstarch to cure your baby’s acne since it naturally dries your baby’s skin and can help in controlling the production of excess oil.

However, make sure you use in only once a day. Mix some cornstarch with room temperature water. Apply a thin paste with your finger on the affected area.

Leave on for 45 minutes. Rinse off with warm water and dry with a clean towel.
Your baby’s skin is extremely sensitive. Any treatment of baby acne should be carried out with natural products which are gentle for your baby’s skin.

These home remedies for your baby’s acne are safe, and you can use them to get rid of acne from your baby’s skin.
